Falling sick every monsoon?
The rains are here.
So are seasonal infections.
Every monsoon, hospitals across Mumbai see a rise in illnesses caused by mosquitoes,
contaminated water, and changing weather.
While most monsoon illnesses are preventable, ignoring the early signs can lead to serious complications. Knowing what to watch out for can help you protect yourself and your family.
Common Monsoon Diseases:
1. Dengue.
Dengue spreads through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. Stagnant water collected in coolers, flower pots, buckets, and uncovered containers becomes the perfect breeding ground during the monsoon.
2. Malaria.
Cooler, damp weather can make muscles and soft tissues feel tighter, leading to increased joint stiffness and discomfort.
3. Leptospirosis.
This bacterial infection can spread through floodwater or water contaminated with the urine of infected animals. People walking through waterlogged areas with cuts or wounds are at a higher risk.
4. Viral Fever.
Viral infections become more common during the monsoon and spread easily from person to person. They usually cause fever, body aches, weakness, and fatigue.
5. Stomach Infections.
Eating contaminated food or drinking unsafe water can lead to diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain, and dehydration, especially during the rainy season.
Common Symptoms Include:
- High fever
- Body aches
- Headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Loose motions
- Extreme tiredness
