Cancer is emerging as a major public health problem all over the world. There are three main types of treatment modalities available for treating cancer – Surgery, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy. The Surgical specialty dealing with cancer management is known as Surgical Oncology. Surgery plays an important role in the management of both early cancers as well as advanced cancers in combination with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The Department of Surgical Oncology provides surgical care to patients with solid tumours in combination with adjuvant treatments. Major surgical management of the cancers of the breast, gastro-oesophageal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal, genitourinary, gynecological, head and neck, endocrine and musculoskeletal tumours are conducted.
